HoTT2Duplex Telemetry Converter?

While browsing German Jetiforum.de I read an interesting thread about Graupner HoTT telemetry-sensors being used in Jeti-systems.

As it often is this too was born on necessity, a user had converted from Graupner to Jeti and had quite many HoTT sensors in his models. Choices are to either replace all of them to Jeti or create a way to use them with Jeti, user decided to use the convert-way. And that’s not a bad choice, community got a great and versatile converter. So let’s dive into the converter, construction and code to see what we can find.

HoTT2Duplex is the brainchild of Github-user Made4RC, this is news-post, not a RC-Thoughts project.

Hott2Duplex Converter

What you need is a Arduino Pro Mini (or Nano, I assume), two resistors between 1.5kΩ and 4.7kΩ. (I have found that 2.4kΩ to Jeti works best) And of course some wire.

Schematic is simple:

Wires going to left in picture is for HoTT-sensor, wires to the right is to Jeti receiver. Schematic is as simple it can be and this also makes for neat package with some heat-shrink on.

Features and HoTT-sensor compatibility

As of today the compatibility-list to HoTT-sensors is nothing but impressive:

  • Graupner HoTT Electric Air Module
  • Graupner HoTT General Air Module
  • Graupner HoTT GPS
  • Graupner HoTT Vario
  • Graupner HoTT Air-ESC

On top of this these sensors are nicely priced so they might be useful to someone.

Where?

HoTT2Duplex is available on authors github-page here, have a look often, development is fast at the moment. A lot of discussion is available on Jetiforum.de here, discussion is in German language, forum offers translate in the right upper corner.

Nice work!

I’m very glad to see that DIY is alive and well! Keep up the good work!

  1. That's great news! I have been looking for a long time for something like that. I am new to the Arduino World, could you explain how to program the board and how to import the libraries on the board?

    Thanks a lot,

    David

    1. Some guidelines are written to my RFID-Sensor about the programming, look here: https://www.rc-thoughts.com/jeti-rfid-sensor/

      1. I provided hex-files in the github repository.
Maybe this helps in combination with Teros guidelines to ease the process.

  2. Hi,
great converter. I was able to get data from my 60A ESC to Jeti receiver.
Just one important thing. Dont connect the red plus wire to the ESC BEC if you want to convert ESC telemetry as this could kill your ESC BEC or your Arduino as 5V are present there and the ESC also privides a selectable voltage (up to 8V).
In case of ESCs with BEC the signal pin and ground is enough.

    Best regards
    Onki
